With Historical Imagery in Google Earth, we’ve made it possible to use Google Earth imagery to see how the world has changed over time. We’ve been adding imagery since the feature launched in February, and today we announced on our Google Germany Blog that we’ve added historical images of Berlin from 1945 and 1953. To view these new images, you’ll need Google Earth 5.0. Historical imagery can be accessed by clicking on the clock icon in the top menu bar. ABC announced today it would offer online text commentary tracks for full episodes of some of its programs. The first commentary is for the new V sci-fi remake with participation from executive producers Scott Peters and Steve Pearlman. It’s due to hit ABC.com Saturday, a delayed release after the first episode of the show aired on TV last night. Further, ABC is enabling fans to create their own commentary tracks using the same tools.

We’re going to approach this scanned Old Navy Black Friday ad with as much skepticism as we can muster, both because there are a lot of variables and because we, personally, are trying to convince ourselves not to join the Black Friday crowds at Old Navy, of all places.

As the founder of Monolith Productions, videogame creator Jace Hall is the man behind such PC shooting titles as Blood, Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, No One Lives Forever and TRON 2.0. These days, Hall heads up HD Films, which is still immersed in the videogame landscape. The studio is finishing up Chadam, a 10-part Internet short film series that was created using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 technology. The idea behind the Tree & Root Lamp is to make us aware of the fact that we are cutting down way too many trees. So how does Kitae Pak translate this into motion? When positioned inverted in the pot, the lamp signifies a dead root, with the tree cut-off. Upright the lamp and it illuminates the room, depicting the true virtues of a tree and its importance in our lives. Besides the poetic garble, I simply think it’s an elegant design that can find pride in many homes.

Sometime the projects you see at the local hacker space are better left a secret when you return home for the evening. Case in point, this ping-pong ball launcher that can put holes in a sheet of OSB. The projectile is made more lethal because the ball has been injected with water to dramatically increase the density. Compressed air is used to propel it from the 14 round magazine with devastating effect.

“YouTube is down for maintenance and will be back shortly,” says the site. The site first went down at around 9:30 California time. Or possibly earlier, we’re sorting through the Twitter barrage – “is down” is a trending topic right now.

Drupal may be grabbing headlines by becoming the CMS of the White House, but WordPress is bound to be the CMS of a future President thanks to a deal it signed with CoPress.

CoPress, the brainchild of former University of Oregon editor Daniel Bachhuber, aims to build a vertical of college papers within the CMS market, with managed hosting and training.
